About The Lady Tech

What is The Lady Tech and what makes you different from other tech support?

The Lady Tech provides calm, patient, judgment-free in-home tech help for seniors in East York and the surrounding Toronto area. With over 30 years of computer experience and a Police Criminal Record Check completed, I make house calls to help seniors with their computer, tablet, or phone — with no jargon, no rushing, and no judgment. I listen carefully, figure it out with you, and explain every step along the way.

This is personal. I’m a real person in your community, and my reputation depends entirely on treating you and your family with honesty and care.

Are you a certified technician?

The Lady Tech is not a certified technician. Support is provided based on over 30 years of personal computer experience and knowledge — across Mac, PC, iOS, Android, tablets, phones, and smart TVs. Services are software only. Anything requiring hardware repair (broken screens, physical damage, internal components) is referred out to qualified repair services. This is set out clearly in the service agreement signed before every session.

Are you background checked?

Yes. A Police Criminal Record Check has been completed.

What areas in Toronto do you serve?

I am local to East York, Toronto, and serve the surrounding neighbourhoods. Travel outside East York may be subject to an additional fee, confirmed at the time of booking. Not sure if you’re in my area? Call or text and I’ll let you know.

What are your hours?

Call or text anytime at (647) 977-8706 and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Sessions are scheduled by appointment.

How much does in-home tech help cost for seniors in Toronto?

The rate is $80 per hour with a one-hour minimum. After the first hour, sessions are billed in 30-minute increments — for example, 1 hour and 20 minutes is billed as 1 hour and 30 minutes ($120).

I accept cash or e-transfer. Cheques are not accepted. Payment is due at the end of each session and is final — no refunds. There are no hidden fees. I will always tell you before any extra time is charged, and you can choose to stop at that point.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice are subject to the one-hour minimum fee of $80. If a session cannot proceed due to an unsafe environment, the one-hour minimum fee applies plus any time already worked.

What I Can Help With

What does The Lady Tech organize, teach, and fix?

Sessions may include any combination of organizing, teaching, and fixing — as discussed and agreed before we begin. Here’s a taste of what that covers:

  • Being hacked or scammed — or worried you might be
  • Tech support scams — fake Microsoft or Apple calls, texts, or pop-ups
  • New device setup — computer, phone, tablet, or smart TV
  • Password security and password managers
  • Social media privacy settings — Facebook specifically
  • Nervous about banking online
  • Phone and text scams
  • Phishing emails and suspicious messages
  • Video call setup — FaceTime, Zoom, WhatsApp
  • App updates that changed everything
  • Slow or unresponsive devices
  • Printing issues
  • Cloud storage confusion — iCloud, Google Photos, storage full
  • Smart TV setup — Netflix, YouTube, getting back to live TV
  • Understanding how grandchildren use your devices — and how to set limits
  • Parental controls setup
  • Syncing across devices
  • Missing files or photos
  • Mac or PC basics
  • Remote help by video call — in some situations where in-person isn’t possible
Not sure whether your situation fits? Call or text — the answer is almost always yes.

Do you help with both Apple and Windows devices?

Yes — I’m comfortable across Mac, PC, iPhone, Android, iPad, tablets, phones, and smart TVs. If you — or the person you’re helping — are open to a recommendation, based on many years of experience I generally find Apple devices easier to recommend for seniors who are starting fresh, and I’m happy to talk through why. That said, if they love their PC or Android, that’s completely fine too. The goal is for them to feel confident and comfortable with whatever they’re using, and I’m happy to work with either.

Can sessions be done online or by video call?

In-person, in-home sessions are always my recommendation — being there in person means I can see exactly what’s happening, work directly with the device, and make sure everything is explained clearly. That said, there are situations where a remote session makes sense, and I’m happy to discuss whether that’s a good fit for a particular issue.

What don’t you do?

Services are software only. The following are not covered and will be referred out to appropriate providers:

  • Hardware repairs, replacements, or upgrades of any kind
  • Data recovery from failed or physically damaged drives
  • Network installation or physical wiring
  • Any activity that is illegal, unethical, or intended to harm others
The service provider may also decline any work that was not part of what was agreed, or that is beyond the scope of this service. All of this is set out in the service agreement signed before every session.

Working With Me

What happens on a first visit?

Before anything starts, a service agreement is signed so everyone knows exactly what to expect — it covers scope, payment, privacy, and what happens if something goes wrong. Then I listen. The goal is to understand what’s been frustrating, what feels worrying, and what a successful session looks like. From there we work through it together at whatever pace is comfortable, with every step explained along the way.

A few things to have ready: any passwords or access needed for the work, and ideally a backup of important files. The service agreement asks that clients back up their data before sessions begin, as I’m not responsible for data loss. If that’s unfamiliar territory — backing up is something we can tackle together.

All work is done in the client’s presence. I never take anyone’s equipment away.

Do I have to sign a service agreement?

Yes — a service agreement is signed before every session begins. It covers the scope of work, pricing, billing increments, cancellation policy, privacy, data responsibility, and liability. It protects both parties. You will receive a copy to keep. If anything in it is unclear, please ask before signing.

You can read the full service agreement here before we meet — no surprises.

Can my adult child be present during the visit?

Absolutely. Many clients prefer to have a family member present, and I welcome it. A second set of ears helps, and family members often have context that makes the session more useful. The client must be present for the full session in all cases.

How long will a session take?

Most sessions take more than an hour — and some take several. Tech problems are unpredictable, and it’s impossible to guarantee how long something will take until I see it. What I can promise is that I’ll give you my best estimate based on over 30 years of experience, I’ll tell you before any extra time is charged, and you can always choose to stop and continue another time.

What will you be able to see on my device during the session?

Only the files, passwords, and information needed to complete the agreed task will be accessed — nothing else. Personal files may occasionally be visible by accident during a session. If there is anything private on your device, please remove or close it before the session begins. All client information is kept strictly private and is never shared with anyone. No copies of passwords, files, or personal data are kept after the session ends.

How do I book a session?

Call or text (647) 977-8706 or email hello@theladytech.ca. Tell me roughly what’s going on, and we’ll find a time that works.
